2.05 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES -
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATION AND RECLAMATION PLANS.
• hauler by a large push plate. Other systems included electric shuttle
cars which use a wide conveyor chain to discharge coal and flighted
continuous haulage systems, which connect the continuous miner
directly to the mine conveyor system.
The mine conveyor system consisted of up to 13 approximately 3000 foot
long flights of 98" wide conveyor belts. These flights were powered
by double drum 900 hp drive units with hydraulic belt takeups. The
conveyor system transported the extracted coal to the surface at the
East Mine Portal
Support equipment for the underground operation included the use of
modified diesel pickup trucks, diesel powered end-loaders and custom
built service units for belt repair, machinery servicing and timbering
duties.
The mine was powered through the east portals with 7200 volt power
through 350 MCM cables. This power was switched and converted to 440
volts at varies intersections in the mine and at section transformers
in the working sections.
Travel throughout the mine was accomplished via diesel pickup truck
along graded and drained roadways.
Airflow throughout the mine was directed by galvanized steel
stoppings, overcasts and check curtains. Face ventilation was by 36
inch fiberglass tubing and large mobile face fans. The mine used a
• fishtail ventilation system on the production unit, where fresh air is
drawn in on the unit through the travelways and then directed back
down both sides of the production unit in separate return entries.
The mine had a variance from the Federal ventilation standards that
allowed it to use belt conveyor entries as additional intake entries.
(2) Operation Description
Mining ceased at the Bowie No. 1 Mine on December 4, 1997. The area
which has been mined and the sequence of the mining is shown on Map 2-
5. No mining is projected for the next five year permit term.
I •
Permit Renewal - 9 - 01/03
RN-Oy (4~9~oy~
M2-la6
