METHODS Cont'd
The same amount and normality of acid as above was also added to
individual 100e Gunnison River samples, 400 ml each, which served
as experimental blanks. Gunnison River and 100°s effluent samples
with no acid added served as experimental controls.
Mortality after 24 hours was expected in those samples with low pH.
This included all the blanks, and, the effluent samples with
alkalinities of 95 and <5.0. After verification of the expected
mortality, 24 hours following test start, the pH of both the
effluent samples above and all the blanks were adjusted to a
neutral range with 5 normal and 1.25 normal sodium hydroxide. A 24
hour C. dubia bioassay was then performed using the new pH adjusted
samples.
The data was analyzed for significant mortality using the Dunnett's
method.
-3-
COMMERCIAL TESTING & ENGINEERING CO.
oinal Copy Watermarked
-o~ four Pr pienipn
