2.05.3(2)
In order to prevent short circuiting, mine doors may be installed
in pairs in certain areas to form an airlock.
Various stoppings throughout the mine will be equipped with a man
door or drop door to allow access to the entries which have been
sealed off by stoppings. These doors will be carefully built so as
to minimize leakage.
Bulk travel curtains and brattice will direct the flow of air from
the intake across the working faces and into the return entries.
The overall circulation of air through the mine will proceed in the
following manner: An externally mounted exhaust fan will create a
negative pressure and draw air into the mines through the intake
portal. Intake air will then be directed through the mine by
stoppings, overcasts and regulators to the working faces of each
mine section or working panel. At the working face of the
continuous miner section, brattice and curtains, or auxiliary fans
and tubing, will be used to direct intake air through the working
• faces and into the return air. Neutral air will not sweep across
the working faces but will be directed by stoppings and a regulator
into return air courses. The return air from each section will be
directed by stoppings, overcasts, and regulators to an existing
return entry to be exhausted through the fan into the open air.
Roof Suoaort. Roof control will be based on a conventional spot
bolting plan approved by the Mine Safety and Health Administration;
conventional supplemental materials and supports will be used as
necessary.
During mine development throughout the old Edwards Mine, timbers
with cap blocks and wedges will be installed as necessary down
roadways and crosscuts. Depending upon the conditions encountered,
other supplemental and temporary supports such as metal posts,
jacks or cribs in conjunction with wooded cap blocks, footers,
planks and beams will be installed as needed.
•
2.05-11 Rev. 11-30-93
