to best serve the post mining land use. These dams will be located in recon-
• structed drainages where adequate water yield is available from the watershed.
See permit section 3.6.3.8 for construction details and reporting requirements.
Trapper Mine has applied to transfer existing water rights to the sediment con-
trol dams which will more than accommodate future stock dam needs. Fences to
protect property boundaries will be re-established.
Livestock productivity will be re-established as a direct result of achieving
successful revegetation as discussed in Section 4.4. Refer to Section 3.6.3.8
for the description of the range management plan that will be used for reclaimed
areas.
4.2.3 Wildlife Use
Resident wildlife are expected to begin using the reclaimed areas after mining as
soon as forage and cover are available. Successful reclamation will provide ade-
qua[e food and cover for year long utilization by these animals (refer to Section
3.6.3.5). Wildlife movement will not be restricted by fencing during plant
establishment, but as described in Section 4.6, a program will be started to draw
wildlife away from areas being reclaimed to help ensure successful revegetation.
Wildlife use of the proposed permit area at Levels comparable to or greater than
that before mining is probable after reclamation because habitats similar to
those occurring before mining wi1L be re-established. This restored use is
expacted to occur after brush and mountain shrub species have reestablished
(refer to Sections 2.4 and 4.6 for further details on resources and mitigation).
Though habitat for small mammals, birds, and reptiles is temporarily destroyed
through surface mining, it is expected that Che repopulaCion of the reclaimed
areas will be fairly rapid because of the prolific nature of these animals.
Game animals including dove, deer, and elk are common on Che proposed mine site
and provide fair to good hunting. Hunting is a short term use restricted to Sep-
tember through November. The hunting methods commonly used include rifle, bow
and black powder weapons. Control of hunting is discussed in Section 4.6.1.2.

4-6
REVISED JAN 12 'A8
