EXHIBIT D - Wildlife Water Resources, Vegetation and Soils Info.
Wildlife
Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) docuunents were reviewed to de-
termine the presence and status of wildlife in Park County, and in
particular, the project site. The following documents were reviewed:
1. Essential Habitat for Threatened and Endangered Wildlife
in Colorado, Wildlife Management Section, DOW, Department
of Natural Resources, State of Colorado, 1978.
2. Colorado Bird Distribution Latilong Study, DOW, 1978.
3. Colorado Mammal Distribution Latilong Study, DOW, 1978.
4. Colorado Reptile and Amphibian Distribution Latilong,
DOW, 1978, and
5. Park County Select Species List, Wildlife Inventory Infor-
mation, DOW, 1977.
• Information on threatened and endangered wildlife indicates that
eagles are common to the South Platte Valley.
The proposed minir~P activities, which would cause only limited
surface disturbance, should not adversely affect wildlife in the
area. The project will not impact winter habitat, nesting or calving
areas.
A Mined Land Wildlife Questionnaire was mailed to DOW with a request
for a Wildlife Statement. Mr. Jim Jones of DOW in Fairplay will per-
form the survey and submit a copy to the Colorado Mined Land Reclama-
tion Division to be made a part o£ the permit file.
Water Resources
The operation will not directly affect surface water systems, A
buffer zone of 50 feet will be left between the initial pit aryl the
Middle Fork of the South Platte River. An existing diversion ditch,
approximately 18 inches deep, channels water away from the top of the
hill. This ditch will keep surface runoff out of the pit.
•
