Concerns for Future Mine Expansion
* Mr. Mueller of Siloam Stone has publicly stated (see attached article from the Pueblo Chieftain) that his
mining, per the proposed state permit, will be limited to a 20-acre parcel at one time. Please note that this area is
only limited by the amount of bond reclamation money the miner has put up. I~ at any time, that bond amount is
increased, either by Siloam Stone or any future companies to whom the lease is sold, a much larger area and
indeed even the entire permitted area of 480 acres could be mined at one time.
* Mr. Mueller has stated also that it will take approximately 80 years to mine a 20-acre parcel (again, please see
Chieftain article). This being the case, the expansion ofthe permit and the special use permit should not be
necessary until well into the 23rd century, based on the 160 acre parcel Siloam Stone is currently permitted to
mine. We aze not objecting to mining in the current area, simply to the expansion.
* Please note also that the 20-acres proposedly allowed by the State of Colorado do not have to be contiguous
20 acres, thus several azeas, including the canyon areas, can be mined at one time, even without increasing the
bond amount.
