Archaeological Concerns
* Some of the canyons in the proposed mining area contain writings on the wall identified as Native American
Petroglyphs. Also, many Native American artifacts have been recovered from the proposed mining area. To the
great frustration of the State Archaeologist, these petryglyphs and sites do not have to betaken into
consideration by the State Minerals and Geology Board, and do not have to be documented or surveyed by
Siloam Stone prior to mining activity. If permitted, Siloam Stone and any subsequent lessee could mine the
petroglyphs from the canyon walls.
* We the homeowners aze currently in the process of obtaining an archaeological survey through the Native
American Advocacy Agency Kimochi. A nationally acclaimed archaeologist is scheduled to look at these sites
later this week, and to provide us with a survey shortly thereafter. Because of the short notice (10 days or less)
to landowners of the special use permit hearing, these &ndings will not be available to present at this meeting, but
we feel should betaken into consideration by the County of Pueblo.
* The proposed mining area is also near the site where skeletal remains of a Native American were discovered io
July of 1994. Attached, please see copies of two articles which appeared in the Pueblo Chieftain
