~~ s
Mual:ic MET1toDs
Sunday cline
The Sunday Mine is an incline access underground operation located
in Big Gypsum Valley. Operations are conducted approximately 300-500
feet below the surface caith the workings proceeding in a southerly
direction from the portal. The mine eras an existing operation acquired
..mod e~:panded bj Union Carbide approximately seven ,ears ago and uirreutly
employs about 40 personnel. Current life of the mine is estimated at
U)-15 years.
rlining is conducted in a random room and pillar, open-stope fashion
requiring minimal back support. Underground operations are conducted in
a safe technical miner-like fashion utilizing diesel trackless equipment, '
explosives, pneumatic drills and other modern mining methods. Ore,
waste, men and equipment exit through the one portal. Barren waste and
sub-economical mineral are stockpiled on the property, w}~ile ore grades
are shipped to the Mill in Uravan. Facilities for equipment repair,
storage, sanitation and offices are located near the portal.
The surface facilities and portal are located at the base of a
steeply sloping valley wall on Public Domain. The waste dumping
methods tend to self sort the materials, with the coarse materials
at the bottom thus providing a stable and self-draining site.
Future surface disturbances are expected to be minimal orit:h some
requirements for ventilation sites, roads, dump expansion and e. water
retention pond.
At present all underground seepage is pumped into dormant workings,
with tentative plans to pump the excess water to the surface ar.d hold it
in a series of retention ponds for percolation back into the ground
water system.
