• {6) Overburden
The Golden Eagle mine was an underground operation: No overburden was removed nor
exposives used on the surface during the operation of the mine. No use of explosives are
planned during this permit term.
(7) Coal Handling Structures
The raw coal handling structures that Basin used during its mining operations are shown
on Map 10 -Surface Facilities and Roads. The raw coal was transported to the surface on
a slope belt, dropped through a stacking tube to a stockpile, drawn through a reclaim
tunnel and conveyed into the breaker building. The coal was sized and waste rock
separated at the rotary breaker. Waste material was trucked to the disposal area while the
coal was conveyed to the loadout for shipment to the New Elk Mine for processing.
All facilities were removed and the surface reclaimed in 1996.
(S) Coal Processing Waste and Non~oal Processing Waste
Trash waste consisting of paper, cans, rags, and other assorted minor industrial waste was
hauled by commercial trash handing firm to a permitted county landfill. Other waste
material which had some salvage value were stockpiled in the Scrap Storage Area
• identified on Map 10 -Surface Facilities and Roads for periodic shipment to salvage
dealers.
In response to Stipulation 9, a five acre coal processing waste area in Ciruela Canyon was
constructed. The extent of the piles projected hydrolocic impacts as well as design
specifications are described in Exhibit 17, Disposal Area Design. The design capacity of
the pile was 101,000 cubic yards including processing and development waste.
(9) Underground Development Waste
Underground Development Waste was disposed of in the coal processing waste bank.
(10) ~teturn of Coal Processing Waste to Abandoned Workings
No coal processing waste was returned to abandoned workings during the operation of
the Golden Eagle Mine.

Page 2.05-13 (Permit Renewal Rews+eu 3/3l/00)
RN -d3
