After completion of cavities SH and 6H,
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) drrected as a condition of the "Authorization to
Commence Injection" in Well 6H that "further solution mining of Panel 2 will be limited to
paired injection and recovery well schemes." This requires that cavity 7H be positioned to
remain isolated from existing cavity lA.
Agapito Associates, Ina (AAI), recommends truncating the horizontal drilling of
cavity 7H well bore 251 ft from the cavity lA well bore. Details of the assumptions and
calculations used to arrive at the recommended spacing aze provided below.
To establish the spacing sufficient to maintain isolation between cavities lA and 7H
requires an estimate of the lateral extent of the cavities. The solution mining cavity shapes result
from:
• The tonnage of product removed
• The estimated allocation of production tonnage to segments of the solution mining
cavity
• Mining zone height estimates
• Estimated cross section shape of the solution mining
• The average mineral grade of the mining zone
For mine planning purposes, a rectangular, cross section cavity shape, to estimate Natural
Soda, Inc.'s (NSI) cavity widths has been assumed. Two cavity heights have been assumed. The
first cavity height is 31.5 ft. This is the height from the bottom of the Lower Boies Bed to the
top of the Upper Boies Bed. The second is 55.3 ft. This includes the bottom of the Lower Boies
Bed up to the Dissolution Surface. The nahcolite grades from a neazby core well have been
assumed appropriate. The allocated tonnages originate from the tonnage allocation model
CONSULTING ENGINEERS
G EOENGIN EERING • MINING ENGINEERING • CIVIL ENGiN EERING
