Three small prehistoric
sites (5MN4665, 5MN4686, and 5MN7765) have been documented in upland
settings in the interior of the park, but most of the sites have been found near
the edges of the park. Two rock shelters (5MN890 and 5MN2221) have been
evaluated as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The
first rock shelter (Tabeguache Cave II, 5MN890) is a deep and rich rock shelter
that has been investigated several times and was listed on the State Register
in 1996. Basketmaker 11 and Ute components have been reported for this site.
Only three of the other sites have identified temporal components. Most of the
documented sites (18 of 23) are unevaluated.
Statement of Objectives
Following state and federal policies and regulations implementing Section 106
of the National Historic Preservation Act (Public Law 89-665), as amended, this
project area was inventoried to identify any cultural resources within the area of
tW01199- Western Fuels JN Paik Survey Rµ_(1-18-0]~.tlac
6
