BANTA, Director DATE: December 13, 1988 T0: IAi ke Long ~,./ FROM: Candy Thompson ~~ RE: Refuse Disposal Area Diversion Design and Underground Waste The following mines have been partially or wholly approved with 10-year, 24-hour diversion design around refuse areas. C-80-007 - Mt. Gunnison The diversions for both the upper and lower waste piles have been designed for the 10-year event. Redesign is required to adequately pass the 100-year event. The operator should be contacted and requested to revise these designs and implement any changes needed on the ground for the active area. C-81-044 - Eagle 5 & 9 Mines The ditch around the refuse disposal area is sufficient in size to carry the 100-year event. There are 2 designs for the ditch in the permit application which conflict. A memo has been written to Gregg SDUire detailing what amendments are needed to the permit applications. C-84-U53 - Eastside Coal The proposed refuse area has been designed for a 14-year, 24-hour event. The pile is not constructed. The operator has been notified of the need to modify the design. C-84-017 - Coal Basin Flines -4ost of the added ditch for the Rock Tunnel and Sutev Refuse Area has been designed for a 10-year, 24-hour event. The operator has been notified of the need to change these designs and the ground ditch sizing as needed. Diversions are designed for the 100-year event. C-81-032 - Meeker Area Mines The diversion ditches from the refuse pile to the sediment pond have been designed for a 10-year event.
