• Some compaction of fill slopes is desirable for slope
stability. Therefore, fill slope surfaces should be left
moderately rough with stones in place also. Besides providing
the benefits mentioned previously, this will help prevent
the movement or flow of unconsolidated material.
The roadway surface will require seeding and should
be left in a moderately roughened condition. Areas of the
road surface that consist of consolidated bedrock will require
topsoiling. Material suitable for this purpose can be obtained
from the pad area or from adjacent areas of moderately deep
to deep soil material. In most cases in areas of such extremes
in the natural occurrence of coarse fragments and rock
• outcroppings or stony materials in the soils, mechanical
treatments (or even drill seeding) are not Feasible.
Therefore, state-of-the-art revegetation techniques such
as broadcast seeding, mulching, and hydroseeding provide
the best available technology.

- 28 -
