Effective rooting <br />depth is usually greater than 50 inches. <br />Class 2 <br />These soils have 20 to 40 inches of fair to good topsoil <br />material. Class 2 soils generally have about one foot of <br />high quality topsoil at the surf ace. •T his material is <br />recommended for top dressing since it has all the desirable <br />characteristics listed for similar material above in the <br />Class 1 description. <br />The Class 2 soil series in the survey area is Jerry <br />loam. These soils have profile textures ranging from silty <br />• clay loam to clay. They are well-drained with slow <br />permeability. They are non-saline and non-alkaline to depths <br />of three feet. Wind and water .erosion ,hazard is moderate <br />to high. Ti1th at optimum moisture content is fair to very <br />good.. The potential for compaction varies from moderate to <br />high. Soil structure has fair to good stability when wet. <br />The potential for crusting upon drying is low to moderate. <br />Available water holding cagacity is moderate to high. <br />Effective rooting depth is typically 30 to 40 inches. <br />Class 3 <br />' Class 3 soils have 6 to 20 inches of fair to good topsoil <br />material. These soils are shallow to hori2ons of coarse <br />. fragments. <br />-20- / <br />
