Box 21649 <br />1400 West 64th Avenue <br />Denver, Colorado 8022 1 <br />rii rllr>ririirr«ul <br />PnO n[ <br />761.41]1 <br />Re: #657 Parshall Fumes - Lyons <br />Dear Mack: <br />1 am writing to provide the information you requested concerning <br />water measuring devices for the Lyons property. <br />The purpose of these measuring devices would be to determine the <br />seepage losses from the Clough and True ditch and the .South Branch of <br />St. Vrain Creek within Western Paving Construction Company property, <br />and to detect possible increases in these losses due to WPCC ruining <br />operations. <br />With respect to the Ciough and True ditch, we would recommend <br />installing two 2'X 18" Parshall flumes in this ditch. One would be <br />located just below the point where this ditch diverts from the South <br />Branch near the west property line, and one would be located lahere the <br />ditch leaves WPCC property on the east. I have inspected sites where <br />these could be placed, and I believe that these two flumes could be <br />~.~,stalted in one day by two men with a pickup, shovels, a carpenter's <br />level, and some wrenches (provided it is done before the ditch starts <br />carrying water). These flumes are stock items at Thompson Pipe and <br />Steel Company in Denver, and as of last week cost $276 each. We <br />would not recommend installing recorders on these flumes since this <br />would add about $650 each to the cost of the flumes ($450 each for <br />standard Stevens "type F" recorders and $200 'each flume for stilling <br />wells, recorder bases, and covers). Adequate data can probat~ly be <br />obtained by having Chuck Atkins or some other WPCC employee at the <br />
