July 1993 -2- 923-2515 •
]..3 Site Description
The Yoast property is located in Routt County, approximately seven miles south of Hayden,
(:olorado. The drainage sy:>tems investigated in this study flow northerly and terminate at the
confluence of Grassy Creek and the Yampa River. Scotchman's Gulch, Armand Draw and the
unnamed drainage are lower order streams that drain into the higher order Grassy Creek. The
study azea is underlain by the rocks of the Williams Fork Formation of the Mesaverde Group
and the Lewis Shale. The Williams Fork Formation and Lewis Shale are of Cretaceous age.
Structurally, the study area is characterized by a series of anticline/syncline pairs. The drainage
systems investigated for this study appear to lie within synclinal valleys.
1.4 Regort Organization
The following two sections describe Golder's geological investigation. Section 2 is a description •
of the geologic field investigation program. Section 3 presents a discussion of the geologic
alluvial valley floor mapping, including descriptions of the geologic units present. Section 3.5
summarizes the findings of the geologic investigation. Sections 4 and 5 present the findings of
the ecological study conducted by Western Resources Development. Section 4 details the
methods used to characterize the ecological properties of the study azea. Section 5 presents a
discussion of the results of the ecological study. A summary of the entire investigation is
presented in Section 6.
•
Golder Associates
