ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
Do oat apply directly to water, or m areas where surface wakr is present, or [o
intertidal arras below the mean high wares mark. Do not contaminate water when
disposing of equipment wastewaters.
This herbicide is injurious to plants at extremely low concentratlons. Nonmrget
plants may be adversely effected from drift and runoff.
IMPORTANT
DO NOT USE ON FOOD OR FEED CROPS EXCEPT AS RECOMMENDED BY
TH1S LABEL OR SUPPLEMENTAL LABELING. Injury to or loss of desirable
trees or other plants may result from failure m observe the following: Do rat
apply DuPont'" ESCOR'T'" XP herbicide (except as recommrnded), or drain or
flush equipment on or rem desirable tees or other plants, or on areas where Neir
roots may extend or in locations where the chemical may be washed or moved iota
contact with their mots. Do not use on lawns, walks, driveways, tennis courts,
or similar areas. Prevent drift of spray m desiable Plants. Ito not eontaminak
any body of wakr, including irrigation wakr. Keep from contact with fertilizers,
insecticides, fungicide and seeds.
Following an ESCOR7~ XP application, do not use sprayer for application k
crops, This is ex[rcmdy important, as low rotes of ESCORT° XP can kill or
severety injure most crops (except small graids).
GENERAL INFORMATION
ESCORI'o XP herbicide is a dispersible granule fiat is mixed in water and applied
as a spray. ESCORT° XP controls many annual and perennial weeds and woody
plants in non-ttop areas and conifer plantations.
ESCORTa XP may be used for general weed and brash control on industrial
nontrop siks and for selective weed control in certain types of unimproved turf
gases on industrial sites and in native grosses. I[ can also be used for controlling
and suppressing undesiable weeds and hardwoods in conifer plantations.
ESCOR7~ XP controls weeds and woody plants primarily by paskmergentactiv-
iry. Although ESCOR'l~ XP has preemergence activity, best insults ere grneally
btaincd when ESCOR7~ XP is applied to foliage after emergence or dormancy
reek. Except where noted, ESCOAI~ XP provides die best results whrn applied
young, actively growing weeds. The use rate depends upon the weed species
and size at the time of apphcafion.
The degree and duration of control may depend on the following:
• weed spectrum and infermtion intensity
Database and format copyright ©by C&P Press. All rights reserved.
• weed size at application
• environmennl <ondifions at and following treamtent
• soil pH, soil moisture, and soil organic mauve
[t is pcrmissble to apply ESCOR'Im XP k floodpiains where surface water is no[
present, terrestrial areas of deltas and low lying areas where water is drained but
may be isolated in pockets due to uneven or unkvel conditions.
ESCOR7m XP is noncorrosive, nonflammable, nonvolatile and does not freeze.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY
ESCOR'Im XP is absorbed primarily ttirough the foliage of plants, and by the
roots to a lesser degree. Plant cell division is geneally inhibited in sensitive
planes within a few hours following uptake, Two to 4 weeks after applicadon,
leaf growth slaws followed by discoloation and tissue death. The final effect on
annual weeds am evident about 4 to 6 weeks after applicadon The ultimate effect
on perennial weeds and woody plants occurs in the growing season following
application.
Warm, moist conditions following ircatment promote the activity of ESCOR7°
XP, while cold, dry conditions may reduce or delay activity. Weeds and brush
hardened off by cold weather or drought stress may not be controlled.
The use of a surfactant is recommended to enhance the control of susceptible
plants, except whets noted. Apply at a minimum ate (concentration) of 4.%
volumelvolume (1 qt. per 100 gal. of spiny solution), or at the manufacturer's
recommrnded ink. Use only EPA approved surfactants conmining at least 80%
active ingredient. Certain types of surfactants, such as those incorporating acetic
acid (i.e. L1-700), may not be compatible with ESCOA7w XP and may result
in decreased performance. Certain surfactants may not be suitable for use on
desirable plants, such as turf and conifers, listed on this label. Consult the
surfactant manufacm[er's ]abet for appropriate uses,
Weed and brash control may be reduced if rainfall occurs soon after application.
RESISTANCE
Biotypes of terrain weeds listed on this lobe) ors resistant m ESCOR'I® XP and
other herbicides with the same mode of action, even at exaggeakd application
rates. Biotypes are namrafly occurring individuals of a specie that arc identical in
appearance but have slightly different genetic compositions; [he mode of action of
a herbicide ta the chemical inkaction that inkttupts a biological process necessary
for plant growth and development. -
]f weed control is unsatisfactory, it may be necessary 1o retreat problem areas
using a produtt with a different roods of action, such as postemergence broadleaf
and/or grass herbicides. ,
If resismnt weed biotypes such as kochia, prickly lettuce, and Russian thistle are
suspeckd or known to be present use a rank-mix partner with ESCORTa XP m
help control these biotypes, or use a planned herbicide rotation program where
other residual broadleaf herbicides having different modes of action are used.
