' Coulson Excavating Company, Inc. -Stroh Gravel Pit
'~` Exhibit S -Permanent Man-Made Structures
RECEIVED
AUG 12; 20pp
Background ~~e~sion of Minerals and CeetesY
Three permanent man-made structures exist within 200 feet of the affected land. The first
is an 8-inch diameter steel, high-pressure, liquids petroleum pipeline located beneath the
ground surface that runs through the project area (see Exhibit C). Per agreement with the
owner, Kaneb Pipeline Company, Coulson Excavating Company will maintain a setback
of approximately 50 feet to the west and 50 R to the east of the buried pipeline, as
measured from the top of the mining cell to the centerline of the petroleum pipe.
Additionally, a 3:1 slope will be maintained to the west and east of the Kaneb Pipeline
(see Exhibit S -Figure 1). Prior to any excavation, the exact location of the centerline of
the pipeline will be surveyed and flagged. A copy of this agreement has been included.
The second man-made structure is an old house located within the permit boundary
(northwest corner). This house is owned by the Coulson Excavating Company, Inc. Third
is the Hillsboro Ditch, which is located approximately 125 feet from the permit boundary.
See Exhibit C for details.
For the purpose of determining the safety of the Hillsboro Ditch structure, a slope
stability analysis was performed through application of the GEOSYSTEM Slope Stability
Analysis program SB-SLOPE. Two analyses were performed fora 50 ft setback as
measured from the toe of slope: 1) 1H:1 V slope (see Figure 1) and 2) O.SH:1 V slope (see
Figure 2). Table 1 summarizes the parameters input into SB-SLOPE.
Table 1 -INPUT PARAMETERS
Stratigraphic Layer Density
c * Cohesion
s ** Phi (~)**
Overburden d 96 50 24
Gravel (dry) 100 25 • 30*
Gravel saturated 134 0 35
Weathered Claystone
(saturated) 115 0 14
Intact Cia stoned 102 700 26
* Budhu, Muni. 2000.
