The fifth and final element in the Mine Site Drainage Control Plan is the timber stocage area sedimentation pond. All runoff drainage from the timber storage area to [he south is directed to the sedimentation pond (see Map 8-2). See Section 2.05.3(3)(b) for details on the pond. Side slopes and top of area were revegetated during the Fall, 1979. The areas to the north have berms along the edge to di- rect run-off from the [op to the road and fi- nally into the sedimentation pond. These side slopes were revegetated during [he Fall, 1979. See Section 2.05.4(2). A vegetative buffer below the side slopes was picked instead of a sedimentation pond due to an increase in dis- turbed area of approximately one acre that would be required for a pond. The area is small, approximately 0.5 acre. This run-off would also go through oak brush vegetation be- fore entering Steven's Gulch. See the Surface Drainage Appendix - Vegetative Buffers in Vol- ume 8. Groundwater inflow into the Orchard Valley Aline is very limited. During the year 1983, only approximately 300,000 gallons of water flowed inCO the mine. The source of Che groundwater inflow into the mine is Che perched water bearing sandstone above the mined coal seam. This sandstone is of lentic- ular character and the water bearing strata are present only in parts of the permit area. Groundwater inflow into the mine typically oc- curs from fractures in [he roof strata. Some water inflow was connected to the Fault en- countered at crosscut /k77 in the North Mains.
