Revised 1 1 i98
Section 780.111a) Continued.
• All of the remaining material or approximately 7.1 million cubic yards from the former
overburden stockpile was hauled to and placed as backfill in the 720 Pit. Mining
continued in Pit 1 through January 1993 when the remaining reserves were
exhausted. Subsequent to approval of TR-07 in July 1990, all production overburden
from Pit 1 was direct hauled and placed as backfill in the south end of Pit 1. Direct
haul backfill material was supplemented by approximately 800,000 Bcy of additional
fill generated by backsloping Pit 1 highwall areas. Both direct haul backfilling and
backsloping activities in Pit 1 were completed prior to May 1994. At that time, a
Phase 1 Bond Release inspection resulted in a dispute with OSMRE over interpretation
and application of AOC restoration requirements. By consensual agreement, Kerr
committed to and placed additional supplemental fill in the Pit 1 reclaim area in order
to resolve outstanding AOC issues. The source of the supplemental fill material was
the existing Bush Draw road fill (approximately 27,000 cubic yards) and a previously
disturbed and unreclaimed area in the southern portion of Pit 1 (approximately
390,400 cubic yards). Final backfilling and grading of the Pit 1 area was completed in
1996.
u
L
TR-19 780-3c Revised 11/98
