i
Revised 04/20/90
Section 780.16(a) Continued.
enhance the waterfowl habitat at the Kerr Mine Area by providing a
greater amount of needed resting water during periods of heavy spring
runoff (spring migration)
Sage Grouse. In order to protect the value of the Raven Lek as a
breeding area for sage grouse, Kerr Coal will limit topsoil and
associated vegetation removal operations in the area adjacent to the
Raven Lek as much as possible between late March and the end of May.
In addition, unless mining requirements require otherwise, once the
birds from the Raven Lek have left the lek for nesting, Kerr Coal
will avoid any nests found on the area until the chicks have hatched
and departed the nest.
• Raptors. No supplemental measures are required to mitigate the
negligible impact of the proposed mining operation on raptors because
of the increased density of small mammals and rodents which will
result from not only the displacement resulting from mining, but also
the reconcentration of small mammals in reseeded areas after
reclamation.
•
Threatened and Endangered Soecies. Because no adverse impacts on
threatened or endangered species is anticipated, no supplemental
mitigation measures are necessary.
780-47
