2.04.7
RESPONSE continued
THE ADJACENT AREA -The adjacent area to the proposed
permit area is delineated on Exhibit AA. (Exhibits Volume II) ae
the Hayden Gulch. Dowden Gulch and Dry Creek watersheds.
Hayden Gulch and Dowden Gulch both join the Williams Fork in
Section 13, T4N.. R89W., at an elevation of 6,800 feet after each
flows approximately 4 miles from its origin. Their confluence
with the Williams Fork is 0.5 miles downstream of the deactivated
USGS stream gage 09249000.
Dry Creek joins the Yampa River below the town of Hayden in
Section 4, T6N. , R88W. , approximately 12 miles downstream of
its origin in the Southern portion of the permit area at an eleva-
tion of 6.330 feet.
• Six sites were selected for observation of stream flow and water
quality to establish apre-permit application water resoaurce data
base for the adjacent area. Please refer to Exhibit AA (Exhibits
Volume II) for site locations.
During the 1983-85 time frame the proposed mining operations
would create as affected area of variable extent within the
Dowden Gulch watershed. Therefore, monitoring site (S-1) was
located is the upper reaches of Dowden Gulch immediately down-
stream of the proposed permit area's Southern portion. Another
monitoring site (S-2) was located further downstream and immedi-
ately above Dowden Gulch's confluence with the Williams Fork.
During the 1978-83 time frame, mining operations in the Southern
portion of the proposed permit area have created and would
maintain an affected area of variable extent within the Hayden
Guclh watershed. Therefore. a monitoring site (S-3) was located
• in the upper reaches of Hayden Gulch immediately downstream of
the permit's area Southern portion. Another monitoring site
(S-4) was located further downstream and immediately above
Hayden Gulch's confluence with the Williams Fork.
