Each cooler will be taped shut with packing tape to ensure that it does not open during transit. The
shipping label will be clearly displayed on the outside of each cooler. A completed chain of custody
form will accompany each cooler, sealed in a plastic bag inside the cooler. Delivery of samples will
be coordinated with the analytical laboratory's work schedule to ensure that the samples can be
properly received, logged in, and analyzed within the specified holding times.
The analytical laboratory will receive samples in a designated control area of the laboratory. The
sample custodian will unpack the samples and check the shipping container to make luxe that there
axe no broken bottles and that the samples remained cool during shipping. The sample custodian
will verify the arrival of samples against the COC record.
In addition, the sample custodian will make sure that the proper containers and preservatives fox the
parameters of interest have been used. The sample custodian will immediately notify the Brown and
Caldwell (or other DMG-approved outside consultant) project manager or his/hex designate of any
problems that may affect the sample integrity or any discrepancies between the samples and the
COC record.
The laboratory will be instmcted to retain samples until written authorization to discazd them is given
by Brown and Caldwell (or other DMG-approved outside consultant). This allows for the opportunity
to reanalyze samples if initial results seem anomalous and holding times have not been exceeded.
5.5 Quality Assurance and Quality Control
QA/QC measures promote accuracy and precision of the collected data. Field QA/QC includes
cleaning of sampling equipment, using appropriate sample containers, and maintaining COC
procedures. QA/QC measures are also followed by the contracted laboratories and include equipment
blanks and spikes. QA/QC results will be provided by the laboratories.
5.5.1 Field Duplicates. Field duplicates of groundwater samples will be collected for analysis
at one station during each sampling event. Field duplicates will be labeled as separate samples to avoid
confusion and to provide an unbiased blind evaluation. Duplicate QC samples will be identified as D1,
D2, and so on, with the number designating the order in which duplicate samples were collected and
will not represent the sample site location (fox example, Dl would not designate a duplicate sample
collected at site MW-001). Designation of the sampling location where the duplicate sample was taken
will be recorded in the bound field notebook for reference when reviewing sample results. Although
the laboratory will know the sample is a duplicate, it will not know what sample has been duplicated and
will have no basis upon which to modify results.
5.5.2 Data Evaluation Procedures. Data evaluation consists of reviewing the data package
received from the analytical laboratories to ensure the package is complete and consistent. The
following data review criteria will be completed by Brown and Caldwell (or other DMG-approved
outside consultant) fox the groundwater samples:
Step 1
Beview the data retfor completene.rr. Confirm that all sample sites and constituents
are reported ox that there is an explanation for a missing data point.
P:\Daa\GEN\FS-P-T\II431\Peemi'ting\Snpu6uon Itaponve\Gmundwarcr Suppling Plan\Condinon 1 Groundovm Sampling Plan } Ya p}.yp~ 11
