It is
important that samples are packaged for transport once the sampling event is complete, and delivered
to the laboratory in order to arrive within the required holding time fox each constituent.
5.4.1 Field Notebook. Field notes will be taken at sampling sites and recorded in a bound
field notebook. Observations and sampling methods will be recorded while at the sampling site to
improve accuracy. Types of information to be recorded include monitoring site idenrification, date
and time of sampling, identity of the sampler(s), type of samples, identification of QA/QC samples,
method of sampling, results of field analyses, description of weather, access conditions, air
temperature, site appearance, and unusual conditions observed. Calibration information will also be
recorded in the field notebook.
5.4.2 Sample Bottle Labeling. Collected samples will be designated by sample location (for
example, MW-001, MW-002). Each sample container will be individually labeled, with the label affixed
duectly to the bottle itself with the preservative and analysis to be performed printed on the label.
Additional sampling information, including date, time, location, sampling medium, and sampler initials,
will also be written on the label with indelible ink.
5.4.3 Chain of Custody Documentation. COC documentation will identify sample
containers, include a complete inventory of containers in a sample set, and provide an audit trail
identifying the persons who have custody of a sample in order, and the date and time when custody was
relinquished from one person to the next. COC forms will be obtained from the analytical laboratory
with the sample bottles.
5.4.4 Sample Containment for Transport. Sample bottles collected in the field will be
labeled, double-bagged and placed in a plastic xe-useable cooler with double-bagged ice for transit to
the appropriate laboratory. Samples will be kept chilled to 4 degrees Celsius in a cooler from the
time of collection through delivery to the analytical laboratory. Bubble wrap packing and air-filled
baggier will be used to fill the space in the cooler to m;n;m;ze the chance for movement and damage
of the sample bottles inside the cooler.
P:\6ab\GEN\F-S-P-9~}Z421\Pmnimng\Snpulanon Rnponse\Gmundwarer $vnpiing PW \Condition 1 GmunAvatc Sampling Plan 3JA_0).doc 1
