1
2.0 Facility Discussion
This section discusses the two areas relevant to SPCC requirements at the Roaring Fork
Resources Mamm Creek Sand and Gravel Pit: the in pit fuel storage and the vehicle
maintenance shop.
' 2.1 In Pit Fuel and Used Oil Facilities
' This section discusses the in pit fueling and used oil storage facilities and potential spill
scenarios. This plan addresses a typical in pit scenario because the mine plan projects
mining one area completely prior to moving to a new pit. The fuel storage and used oil
facilities will therefore follow the mining sequence from pit to pit. This plan will be
implemented prior to placing the fuel and used oil storage facilities into service in the
new pit location.
' 2.1a In Pit Fuel Storage
' In pit fuel storage is provided for the following applications:
Description Capacity (gallons) Contents
' Off Road Trucks 10.000 #Z Diesel
Off Road Equipment 10,000 Red Diesel
Crusher Operations 10,000 Red Diesel
' Wash Plant Operatious 10,000 Red Diesel
These storage tanks are above ground and are single-walled steel tanks made specifically
' for the storage of fuel. The tanks are eight (8) feet in diameter and twenty-seven (27) feet
in length and manufactured by Eaton Metal. The tanks are filled through a screened
opening on the top. A second aperture on the top of the tanks is used as a vent and as an
' opening for a stick gage.
' The diesel tank is surrounded by a steel container that is 5 feet high, l0 feet wide, and 30
feet long. The volume inside of the wall is 11,220 gallons. This vessel is constructed out
of steel plate, H beams and tubular sections. The components are welded together. The
' joints on the inside of the tank are continuously welded, thereby providing a leak proof
seal. Four saddles are provided for tank support. The containment vessel has an open
top. A valve is located in the bottom of one corner to drain the contairunent vessel of
' stormwater or spilled diesel fuel.
2.1a.1 Information Required by 40 CFR Part 112
' 1. The fuel tank is contained within a steel containment vessel that is designated
to contain a maximum spill from the tank. The capacity of the fuel tank is
' 10,000 gallons and the capacity of the steel containment vessel is 11,220
gallons. Thus, no prediction of direction, rate of flow, or total quantity of oil
is necessary as a maximum spill would be fully contained.
1
7
1
