1 <br />' 1.1 Introduction <br /> Roaring Fork Resources, Inc. proposes to construct a gravel pit approximately 1.8 miles <br />' east of Rifle. Colorado adjacent to the Colorado River. The project site is located in <br /> portions of Sections 11, 12, 13, and 14 of Township 6 South and Range 93 West and <br /> contains approximately 483 acres. The proposed permit area contains 308.36 acres. <br />' Roaring Fork Resources, Inc. proposes to mine aggregates from four pits on <br /> approximately 122 acres and potentially two future mining aeeas on 78 acres on the east <br />' end of the project area. The proposed gravel mining operation is bounded on the north by <br /> the Colorado River; on the south by the right of way for Interstate 70; on the east by <br /> Mamm Creek and on the west by a ranch at the end of the frontage road. Access is <br />' provided by an existing gravel frontage road along Interstate 70 (See attached vicinity <br /> map). This plan has been prepazed in accordance with 40 CFR part 112 and focuses on <br /> prevention and containment of possible spills of petroleum products used at the facility. <br />1 1 <br />2 S <br />ill Hi <br /> . <br />story <br />p <br /> There is no spill history as the gravel pit is being permitted. <br /> 1.3 General Facility Description <br /> <br /> Roaring Fork Resources, Inc. currently operates sand and gravel pits in Eagle, Rifle and <br /> Carbondale, Colorado. The Mamm Creek operation will include four mining areas and a <br />' surface facilities area. The mining aeeas are designated as: <br /> 1. West Property Line to Horse Fence <br /> 2. Slough to East Property Line <br /> 3. West End <br /> 4. Dry Creek <br />' <br /> The surface facility azea is located west of the Dry Creek Mining area and will contain <br /> the following facilities: <br />' <br /> • Portable scale and house <br />t Concrete batch plant <br />• Asphalt plant <br /> • Concrete products manufacturing <br /> • Sand and gravel stockpiles <br />' • Office trailer <br /> • Portable shop <br />' • Borrow ditches and detention pond <br /> A portable scale and house will also be installed near the access points for the mining <br />' areas as required. Access to the pits and facilities is via an existing gravel frontage road <br /> on the north side of Interstate 70.
