The annual gross evaporation was distributed over the year as specified in the state's
guidelines. The precipitation at the site was taken as the monthly averages reported for the
Gunnison climatological station. Those values averaged 10.5 inches for the year. The
precipitation was reduced to reflect an effectiveness of 70 percent. The difference between the
evaporation and the effective precipitation is the net evaporation of 2.36 feet. That value was
taken times the ultimately exposed ground water of 39.62 acres. This net evaporation loss to the
stream is 93.44 a-f per year. The month]y components of this annual figure aze presented in
Table 1.
TABLE 1
NET EVAPORATION FROM SEAHORSE RANCH WEST GRAVEL PIT
(39.62 acres)
ONTH JA FEB MA AP MA J JU AU SE OC NO DE
OF ANN 3 3.5 5.5 1 14.5 15 13.5 1 3 100
GROSS, IN ].0 1.25 1.9 3.21 4.2 5.1 5.35 4.81 3.5 2.5 1.43 1.0 35.65
PRECIP, IN 0.9 0.7 0.7 0.68 0.7 0.63 1.4 1.51 0.95 0.73 0.6 0.81 10.50
EFF PRECIP, 0.63 0.5 0.5 0.48 0.5 0.4 0.9 1.0 0.6 0.51 0.4 0.5 7.35
NET EVAP, IN 0.4 0.71 1.4 2.73 3.7 4.73 4.3 3.75 2.9 1.9 0.9 0.51 28.30
PITEVAP AF ].45 2.33 4.81 9.03 12.4 15.61 ]4.43 12.4 9.5 6.5 3.1 ].6 93.44
Minine
Sand and gravel is mined from SRWGP after the pit is dewatered. VCI estimates that
100,000 tons of material will be mined each year. The water removed with the mined material is
estimated as four percent by weight. Using this factor, the water contained in the product is 2.94
x 10.5 a-f per ton. Therefore, the water removed in the projected mined product is 2.9 a-f per
yeaz.
