GB <br /> 02/97 <br /> MANZANOLA SERIES <br /> ' The Manzanola series consists of deep, well drained soils that formed in alluvial materials derived <br /> from sedimentary rock. Manzanola soils are on alluvial fans,valley side slopes,or stream terraces. <br /> ' Slope gradients are 0 to 25 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 13 inches and mean <br /> annual temperature is about 52 degrees F. <br /> TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine, smectitic, mesic Ustollic Haplargids <br /> TYPICAL PEDON: Manzanola clay loam - grassland. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise <br /> ' noted.) <br /> A--O to 5 inches; grayish brown(2.5Y 5/2) light clay loam,dark grayish brown(2.5Y 4/2)moist; <br /> ' strong very fine granular structure; soft, very friable,slightly sticky,slightly plastic; calcareous; <br /> mildly alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (4 to 7 inches thick) <br /> ' BA--5 to 8 inches; grayish brown(10YR 5/2)clay loam, dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2)moist, <br /> moderate medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, very friable, slightly sticky, slightly <br /> plastic; peds are very hard, friable; Thin clay films on some faces of peds and in some root channels <br /> and pores; calcareous; moderately alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (0 to 5 inches thick) <br /> Bt--8 to 20 inches; brown(10YR 5/3) heavy clay loam, dark brown (10YR 4/3)moist; weak medium <br /> ' prismatic structure parting to medium and fine angular blocks; slightly hard, friable, sticky, plastic; <br /> peds are extremely hard,firm;thin continuous clay films on peds and in some root channels and <br /> pores; calcareous; moderately alkaline; gradual wavy boundary. (5 to 12 inches thick) <br /> Bk2--30 to 60 inches; pale yellow(2.5Y 7/3) light clay loam, light olive brown (2.5Y 5/3) moist; <br /> massive; hard, friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; visible calcium carbonate occurring as <br /> ' concretions, in thin seams and streaks, and in finely divided forms; calcareous; moderately alkaline. <br /> TYPE LOCATION: Crowley County,Colorado; 0.1 mile south of the east 1/4 comer of Sec. 7,T. <br /> ' 20 S., R. 55 W. <br /> RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: Depth to uniformly calcareous material ranges from 0 to 10 <br /> inches. Depth to continuous subhorizons of visible secondary calcium carbonate and/or sulfate <br /> ' ranges from 10 to 40 inches. The mean annual soil temperature is 54 degrees F, and the mean <br /> summer soil temperature is 73 degrees F. Rock fragments range from 0 to 15 percent by volume in a <br /> 1 <br />
