• Exit "D" Mining Plan
1. Overburden depth varies from zero to three feet in depth. Approximately U k
100,000 cubic yards of material is available for reclamation. About 5,000
cubic yards are necessary to cover the slopes to a 6 inch depth.
2. The mining will be done in incre~ents of about 6 to 7 acres. The over- U f
burden will be stockpiled adjacent ti)~hat affected area and will be replaced
on finished slopes at the completion of each phase.
3. Brush size to be included in the stripping will be that which is small enough
to be removed by a 20 cubic yard scraper. This eliminates the cottonwood trees
and large salt cedar, but includes some sagebrush and woody shrubs. Cottonwood
trees will be made available to the owner for his use. Any excess brush will be
buried in the pit slopes. ~~-~~~
~~
4. The haul road is included in the 69 acres. ~/K
5. The life of the mine is expected to be ten years but may vary from that based
upon gravel demand. The plant and stockpile area will be graded to drain into /i'c>
,the_pit~rea. Drainage above the plant and stockpile area is handled by the Blue-
stone Ditch.
Dewatering of the pit area will involve digging a "sump", placing a six inch
diameter discharge pump capable of pumping 600 gallons per minute, and discharging oaf
the water into the Colorado River in accordance with the NPDES permit The grave~~ ~.
will be extracted working away from this sump area. ~~Y-%r ~.
The pit will be worked from the northern and eastern side southerly and ~~ r~FF~-/„
westerly. ~ ~~ ~ ~' s
Extracted materials will be crushed and stockpiled for use as construction
materials.
Exhibit "E"
1. If required by the Mined Land Reclamation /~`1
Board, it will be applied at 1 ton per acre.
4. Seedbed preparation will include placing the overburden which contains the
natural brush over the pit slopes to a minimum depth of six inches. G~ %~-~• ~ -'s"
The seed will be broadcast and harrowed into the soil. ~` ~~~>~
5. Late fall or winter planting dates are to be used. ~~ /~
6. The seeding rates will be as you have stated. There was and error in the ~~
recommendation.
7. The shrubs and woody brush will be included in the strippings. It is not
anticipated that the overburden stockpiles will be left in place long enough ~ -~
to render the vegetation incapable of propagation. ~
Cottonwood trees will propagate themselves at a tremendous number of seeds
per acre in disturbed areas. It is proposed that this method of propagation is
far better than planting a finite number of small cottonwood trees which experience)
has shown to have a high mortality rate. -
