<br />V. SUBBASE COURSE <br />The subbase course shall consist of pit run gravel, or <br />machine crushed aggregate particles conforming to the following <br />graduation and depth requirements: <br />A. Pit run gravel: <br />Compacted depth shall be a minimum of six (6) inches <br />xith the largest stone being 2/3 of the subbase depth. <br />B. Machine crushed aggregate: <br />Compacted depth shall be a minimum of six (6) inches. <br />Material shall be xithin the following limits when <br />processed through AASHTO sieves: <br />Sieve Size <br />3" <br />3/4" <br />04 <br />S Passing <br />100 <br />60-80 <br />35-80 <br />All material shall be of sound aggregate particles <br />and shall be free of organic matter. <br />C. Compaction of subbase shall be verified by AASHTO <br />T 191 or T 205 or T 238 S T 239 in conjunction with <br />T 99 or T 180. <br />D. The subbase course shall be inspected and approved <br />by the County Engineer before proceeding with the <br />Base Course application. <br />YI <br />BASE COURSE <br />A. A crushed aggregate base course shall be placed to <br />a compacted minimum depth of three (3) inches on the <br />subbase course except that where pit run subbase is <br />used a minimum of four (4) inches material shall be <br />used. Where no paved surface course is required, <br />the base course shall be construed to be surface course. <br />B. The size characteristics of the aggregate for the <br />base course shall be as follows when tested according <br />to AASHTO T 11 and AASHTO T 27: <br />Sieve size <br />3/4^ <br />#4 <br />010 <br />0200 <br />~ Passing <br />too <br />30-60 <br />20-45 <br />3-8 <br />All material shall be of sound particles and shall <br />be free of organic matter. The plasticity index shall <br />not exceed six (6) and the liquid limit of that portion <br />
