Shale substrate will also be used to
construct the clay liner in Area B.
2.11 SITE PREPARATION
Site preparation will include clearing plant materials, stripping and disposing of the plant
materials so the slurry wall and clay liner can be constructed for water storage areas.
The Applicant (or a qualified contractor selected by the Applicant) will determine the
amount of clearing to prepare the site, in accordance with this section of the
specifications for construction.
The ground surface where construction of the slurry wall and in-fill areas for the clay liner
(see Reclamation Plan, Exhibit F) will be cleared as directed by the Engineer (Note: the
Engineer is any qualified person(s) chosen by the Applicant to oversee the clay liner and
slurry wall construction). These surface areas will be cleared of all trees, stumps,
exposed roots, brush, rubbish and other material determined objectionable by the
Engineer.
The fill areas will be stripped to a sufficient depth in order to remove all unsuitable
materials, such as boulders, loose rock, debris, topsoil, organic matter, stumps, roots
and other objectionable materials that are incompatible with the construction of the slurry
wall and clay liner, and the specifications for construction.
The plant materials from the site preparation will be removed from the construction site
and disposed of in an appropriate manner. Disposal piles will be located such that they
do not interfere with drainage sources (natural or on-site), mining operations, or
operation of the reservoir.
