Memo to Gregg Souire 2 Julv 2 2001
Slurry Wall:
The direct cost [o be incorporated into the reclamation bond relative to the proposed slurry wall is estimated
as follows.
Given: Perimeter of Area C = 3200 linear feet.
Average depth to shale = 34 feet.
Average depth of slurry wall = 34 f[. + 3 ft. (keyway) = 37 ft.
3200 ft. x 37 ft. $3.00/sq.ft. x 20 percent = $71,040.
Quality Assurance:
The clay liner installation around 2200 linear feet of pil perimeter at the north end of Area B is estimated to
require 205 hours of earthwork, or approximately 26 days (see attached estimating worksheets). Quality
assurance testing, observation, and report preparation at $500.00 per day for 30 days yields a cost of
$15,000.00 for the project.
Summary of Direct Costs:
The Applicant is eligible for the 20 percent bonding option under the "Slurry Wall and Clay Liner Guide."
As a result, the direct pit lining and slurry wall installation costs to be included into the bond are:
Dewaterin $65,000.00
Borrow (ri )liner fill $30.458.00
Install cla liner $147,627.00
Slu wall $71,040.00
Qualit assurance $15.000.00
Total $324,125.00
This analysis does not consider other direct reclamation casts, such as topsoiling and revegetation, nor does it
consider the indirect costs.
Reporting Requirements:
The Operator should be required to provide the construction quality assurance (CQA) report and engineers
certification within 60 to 90 days after the completion of the slurry wall. The Operator should further be
required to supply a discussion of clay liner installation progress with each annual reclamation report, and a
summary of ongoing CQA results for [he clay liner.
attachment(s)
cc: Carl Mount, DMG (w/o «u«clunents & via electronic tr«nsmrssion)
e:\wi ndows\pers~n alVohmnnn. dac
