Watcher
EAecuUve Director
Michael R Long
FROM: Allen Sorenson Division D~reaor
RE: Slurry Wall and Clay Liner, L.G. Everist, Inc.,
Lohmann Pit, File No. M-2001-017
The Applicant has provided designs, specifications, and quality assurance plans for [he clay liner and slurry
wall proposed for installation a[ the Lohmann Pit. The materials submitted have been reviewed under the
criteria in the Division's "Guide to Specification Preparation for Slurry Walls and Clay Liners" and i[ has
been determined that the Lohmann Pi[ proposal is eligible for the 20 percent bonding option described in the
Guide. The direct costs for the clay liner and slurry wall that should be incorporated into the amount of
required bond are calculated as follows.
Dewatering Cost: 1000 ac-ft to be dewatered (permit application exhibit L) = 325 million gallons.
325 m.g. x $201.50/m.g. (.CDOT cost data) _ $65,500.00
Rip slra[e from Pil Floor to use as Liner Fill: The volume of fill required at the point of maximum liner cost
under the proposed mining and reclamation plan is 186,000 cubic yards. This quantity is based on the
assumption that Area B is mined out, with 3500 linear feet of liner installed under concurrent reclamation
and 2200 feet of liner to be installed at the north end. Given that the average pit depth is 34 feet, the volumes
are calculated as follows:
[(0.5 x 34 ft, x 102 ft. 3500 ft.) +27] x 20% =44,956 c.y.
(0.5 x 34 ft. x 102 ft. 2200 ft.) =27 = 141,289 c.y.
44,956 c.y. + 141,289 c.y. = 186,245 c.y.
The ripping cost is $30,458.00 as detailed in the attached estimating form for ripping work.
Load, Haul, Spread, Moisture Condition, and Compact Clay Liner Fill:
The combined cost for these tasks is $147,627.00 as detailed in the attached estimating fornt for scraper team
work.
