Golden Wonder Mine
DRMS Mine Permit No M-1978-09]
Storm Water Management Pian
scale and maintained by a crew of 2 - 3 individuals. The ore is hauled out of the mine
with haul cars, and crushed on the working surface outside the Level 6 portal. The
crushed ore is sorted, placed in ore `super-sacks' and hauled to off-site for extraction. A
single haul truck transports the ore sacks from the Leve16 working area to a staging area
by Vicker's Ranch where the ore is then loaded for transport out of state. There is NO
extraction or smelting operations associated with the mine.
Historically, mining has occurred with the use of both the Level 3 and Level 6 portals.
The Level 3 activities were historic occurring up until about 1978 when the Level 6
portal was deemed more suitable. Both portals are marked by waste dumps, the upper or
Level 3 dump covering an acre and the lower or Level 6 dump covering about 1.5 acres.
The surface activities relative to the mine occur on these dumps except for hau}age which
is over the roads. None of the dump areas or access roads are surfaced. There are three
temporary buildings on Level 6 that serve as a storage building (small locked
trailer/building), a semi-open workshop and an outhouse. A small primary crusher, plus
vehicles for ore recovery are also stored on the Leve16 pad.
Mining is accomplished by underground stope method which involves drilling and
blasting and removing ore and waste with trackless equipment through ttre portal. The
waste is dumped on the pad surface. There is no dumping down slope on the waste rock
pile. Ore is stock piled, crushed through a primary crusher on-site and hauled out by
truck. An estimated maximum of 375 tons of waste and 125 tons of ore is permitted to be
produced each month, a total of 6,000 tons per year.
The Leve13 portal is established in a scree or talus slope which is porous and very
permeable so that no surface runoff occurs. There is no historic observation or erosional
evidence to suggest stotmwater concerns are present.
The Leve16 portal is established in colluvium which is also extremely porous and
permeable. Deadman Gulch, an intermittent tributary borders the south side of the Level
6 pad. The Leve16 setting is on a south and west facing slope where the wind and sun
ordinarily keep it clear of most of the snow. Very little runoff has been observed on these
slopes.
2. Area Subject to Effluent Limitations Guidelines
The permit boundaries associated with the mine are shown within Figures 1 and 2.
There are mine site features and an access road associated with each Level. As
previously mentioned, there is no runoff from the Level 3 area and it is currently inactive.
The Leve16 area has the potential for stonnwater discharge as observed from erosion
along the access road. Stormwater flows associated with the road and pad are controlled
~2
