The
second phase is the ongoing mining operation.
The entire site has an average depth of 27 feet to be mined. The
overburden on the property varies from 0 to 3 or 4 feet.
Inspection of the site reveals a large amount of gravely material
at the surface.
Much of the eastern boundary of the permitted area is the McCann
Ditch. The mining operation proposes to relocate the McCann
Ditch in three spots. The first location will occur at the
northeast corner of the mining area. Here the ditch will be
relocated to the permit boundary and will exit the property at
its present location. In the midsection of the eastern side at
the plant site, the ditch will be improved and straightened.
6everal crossings on culverts for equipment will be located along
this reach of the ditch. The last ditch relocation will occur at
the southeast earner. We have reached a verbal agreement with
tfie McCann Ditch Hoard. Prior to the Board meeting we will
provide a written agreement between Ready Mixed Concrete and
McCann Ditch Board.
The method of mining will 6e dragline. There is a water table 3
to 4 feet below the surface insuring wet operation conditions.
The water will be discharged into the South Platte River.
Mining will.proceed to a depth of 27 Peet or until the Pierre
shales are encountered. The sand and gravel resource will be dug
by the dragline and then windrowed for several days. The
material will then be loaded on a conveyor belt which will convey
the material to the plant site far processing. The side slopes
of the pit will be mined at a 1:1 toc:l slope then backfilled to
the 3:1 to 2:1 configuration.
The site will be reclaimed as the mining progresses. Generally
we anticipate 15 acres per year to be mined, pt this rate the
mine will last approximately 20 year-s. Marketing conditions and
demand will affect the amount of material produced each year and,
they-efor-e, the length of the mining operation.
There are no toxic or acid producing material associated with the
mining operation.
D-1
