Earthmoving techniques for the natural gas pipeline will follow generally accepted
practices. The line will be left in place at the end of the Yankee Gulch Project.
Electric White River Electric Association, Inc. plans to permit and build a new 138-
kV transmission line as part of its system needs. Therefore, although this line would
also provide electric power to the Piceance Site, it is not directly associated with the
Yankee Gulch Project. There are two potential alternate routes being considered. The
BLM will be preparing a separate EA to assess the potential impacts from the
transmission line. The line would be pole mounted and located along the well field
access road in the 0-5 year mining panel.
Natural gas emergency generators will be available to supply electricity for an orderly
shutdown during an outage or other unforeseen emergency situations. Emergency
generators will be located within the initial processing plant area.
Pumping Station and Transformers Pumping stations may be located on the
western edge of a mining panel, depending on the distance between the mining panel
and the initial processing facility. Pumping stations will be skid-mounted and will
contain pumps and a control panel. The equipment will be housed in a metal building
on an area measuring 48 feet by 16 feet. Two skid-mounted to reduce the voltage from
the 15-kV distribution line will also accompany each pumping station. The total
disturbed surface area for the pumping stations is included in Table D-1.
Septic System Raw sewage will be discharged to an on-site septic system. The
septic tank and sewage leach field at the Piceance Site will be located approximately 50
feet north of the northwest fence line of the processing plant, near the west edge of the
plant. The septic tank will have an approximate capacity of 1,500 gallons. The leach
field will extend off the north edge of the tank and will contain five 90-foot-long leach
pipes, spaced at approximately 10-foot centers.
Water Potable water will be trucked to the site, and process water will be
provided the return water pipeline from the Parachute Site. Water information is
provided in Exhibit G, Section G.4.
D.2.6.2 Parachute Site Utilities
Natural Gas An existing natural gas pipeline will serve the Parachute Site. It
enters the project from the east.
Electric Public Service Company of Colorado will provide electric power to the
Parachute Site via an existing 230-kV line originating from its Parachute Substation.
One existing substation at the Parachute Site would be refurbished/reconstructed, and
a new secondary substation would be constructed to serve the process building.
D-10
