Box 1044
Salida Colorado
RECEIVED
~u~ t t 2oet
pivision of Minerals and Geology
June 26, 2001
STATE OF COLORADO
Division Of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO. 80203
Attention: James Dillie
Re: Monarch Quarryl 12 Permit Application, File Number M-2000-098, Second
Adequacy Letter
Dear Mr. Dillie,
At this writing it does not appear that I will hear from the State Water Engineer on our
plan to augment the water needed at the site. Also, 1 have not heard from my client, CLC
regarding the handling of the stale water impounded on the site. With this in mind, I am
sure that I will need another 90 days or until October 18,2001, to complete the filings. i
think that about runs the one year filing allowance.
As to your letter of June 20,2001, I have amended exhibits A & S to comply but will
hold them and make one submittal when [ have it all together. This may save some
confusion.
Paragraph 6: Approval of mining a newly selected site is clearly the intent of the
applicant and a technical revision is definitely planned and depending on the extent of the
activity, an amendment may be in order. "Mining" as the term is used here is exclusive of
drilling exploration or removal of ore broken before any permit application by CLC.
__ Ll+ave hired [nhn F'prQLCnn a P F frnm Iluranon tn_hrslp~~rolr~J~~o N.o arlnal
v o ~
expected runoff from a 2 year 24 hour storm event taking into account gradient, soil type,
vegetation, etc. in the drainage area. I will have this and all calculations done for the final
(I hope) submittal.26.67 acre feet is overkill.
I will re submit the blasting analysis. The current operation, mining of the spoils pile,
entails no blasting, is easterly across the South Arkansas River and more than 200 yards
from Mrs. Gloria Brown's residence and in no way should interfere with her use of her
premises.
Paragraph 8: I do not agree with you that wildlife and recreational use are not
compatible. Our rock is getting to small for all to inhabit so we mist have combined use.
The Forest Service Motto: "The Land Of Many Uses". As I stated before, there is a small
herd of bighorn sheep in the area that do not seem to be disturbed with our use. They
should be able to tolerate a little recreational use.
