sediment ponds. Ponds 002-006 were visually surveyed for adequate sediment and water storage
capacity for the 25yr - 24hr event. They appeared to have sufficient capacity. Ponds 001 and 007 were
also observed during the year and no significant sediment inflowwas observed. Their sediment volume
should be adequate.
Were changes made to your SWMP for 2000? Yes
Sediment Pond 008 volume size was increased to the 25yr-24hour event standards by mining activity
and a permanent primary and secondary discharge structure was installed through the embankment
to assist in the SWMP plan. The design for this sediment pond was submitted and approved by the
DMG office. There was a partial 8-hour shift water discharge through this structure October 11"', 2000.
The discharge was by a small Shp gas pump. The discharge volume was estimated to be 72,000 gallons
of water. Before a W ET test sample could be gathered, the pumpage ceased and never was activated
again for the year.
At the New Horizon II area, all culverts and ditches leading into Pond 007 were capable of functioning
as designed. There was no measurable flow ihru these ditches the entire year.
B. A SUMMARY OF EACH COMPREHENSIVE STORMWATER FACILITY INSPECTION
MADE....
New Horizon Mine is small enough in land area that all active areas in the permit boundary are
inspected for SWMP compliance daily, Monday -Friday. This includes ditches, culverts,
sediment ponds, diversion ditches, petroleum storagefacilities, and etc. Non-active areas, such
as established reclaimed areas awaiting reclamation bond release, are inspected weekly, with
detailed inspections monthly. Any deficiencies noted during any of the inspections were
corrected promptly.
In the New Horizon I area, no maintenance work was necessary. All ditches and culverts appeared to
be functioning properly.
C. RESULTS AND INTERPRETATION OF ANY STORMWATER MONITORING..
F: \data\wpdata\storm\OOsumprp. doc 2-3
