Mr. Jack Uaeth +. •
October G, 1980
Page Two
EXHIBIT C
1. The outlines of tire pits on the map should reflect the acreages to be disturbed
as closely as practical. If same of the maps given need to be enlarged to make
this practical, pinasa do so.
2. Any haul roads constructed to serve the gravel pit alone (not pro-exlsting) should
be considered as part of the pit acreages and shown as such. Please clarify this
situation for these pits.
;. Rather than trying to show all gravel stocl:pile locations on the maps, please
describe the typical placement of gravel stockpiles In pit areas.
EXH181T D.
1. Wildlife: I intend to communicato with Jack Vaylringer of the Colorado Dlvlsion
of Wildlifo concerning your statement tlmt the wildlife statement enclosed Is
applicable to all the E1 Paso County gravel pits In the eastern part of the
county. I will express to him the similar natv`re of these opeYatlons. If he
agrees with this statement, I will accept It. 1 will also ask him if the aame
can bo said for the Dellacroee pit which Is In a very different part of EI Paso
Cor,nty. You may also wish to contact lilm In this matter.
'~. Uegetation: Some data on exlsting vegetation for the E1 Pasa County pits should
be provided to the Dlvlsion. Perhaps the Soll Conservation Service can be eontactec
to provide a general statement concerning the oxisting vegetation, if they are
given the pit locations.
` J. Soils: ~. The Hlison and Sokol pits do not seem to be Included cn your listing
of pits as organized Into soli types. 6Tricli associations do they fell under
b. The Dellacroee pit seems to be within soli region 2, the Kettle-Pring~Peyton
association rather than the Truckton-Blakeland-Bresser association as on your
list. Into which of the two generals zones rroul,l this pit then fit?
EXFIIDIT E
1. Are the seeding rates as given for the various seed mixes drilled rates?
2. Is the general reseeding plan to be the ono given as a general example In
Exhibit OZ In general, the methodology given therein Is acceptable.
3. Although the final reclematlon slopes are to he fairly gentle (4: 1), some
mulching would seem to be necessary, especially In a generally ar(d or seml-
arld environment. A minimum of a ,000 lbs. per apere would be a good rate.
fir. A legume should be incorporated Into all of the various seeding mixes to help
P.~,,. de long teen nitrogen. An example would be Birdsfoot Trefoil at 0.5 lb.
PLS/acre (drilled). If you contact the SCS concerning exlsting vogetation, they
may vrish to recormrend an appropriate legume.
EXHIBIT F.
The status of the zoning of the Dellacroee pit should be clarified in wri¢Ing by
the Land Use 6epartment.
I have trlt~ to be comprehensive In my review of these permits. 1 feel that we can
settle the various outstanding Questions on the pits and be ready for the October
meeting. I will be expec Ing your reply at your earliest convenience. If you have
any questions, please tail me.
As per Boar) racomnendatlon, 1 will plan to come down to EI Paso County to visit
some selected pits mined to the past by E1 Paso County but not novr to be~p ermltted,
in order to evaluate the reclematlon of these pits for the Board. I wllf confect
you as to when we can get together.
Slneerely,
Nark S. Loye
Reclamation Speelallet

MSL/Jm
