• sharp-tailed grouse as well. Adverse impacts on these tvo game
species were minimal since no critical habitat was affected.
Consequently, no supplemental measures are necessary.
Waterfowl
Although no supplemental measures were required to mitigate the
negligible impact of the proposed mining operation on waterfowl, it
should be noted that the construction of sedimentation ponds has
served to enhance the waterfowl habitat in the proposed permit area
by providing a greater amount of needed resting water during periods
of heavy spring runoff (spring migration).
• Aquatic Biota
The primary impact of awning on the aquatic eommunities
encountered within and adjacent to the proposed permit area is an
increase in sediment deposition within sedimentation ponds. If
sediment deposits occur, habitat for aquatic flora and fauna may be
reduced. &educed diversities could possibly produce an unbalanced
and unstable aquatic macroinvertebrate community. Adverse impacts
on aquatic biota are highly unlikely, as demonstrated by the
sampling of the communities in 1975 and 1979, where no definite
changes in diversity from previous mining activity were documented.
The absence of an identifiable impact is especially significant
l J
2.05 - 124
