C...-..~.~...-~
The trenching program described in this addendum is in accordance with
your authorization of April 29, 1992 in response to our proposal of April
28th. The program provided for trenches along certain sections of the proposed
haul road, and for geologic examination of those trenches within the context of
the report to which this is an addendum. Six trenches were dug by backhoe to
specifications given to the backhoe operator in the field. The locations of
the trenches, which were marked in the field by Peabody Coal Company surveyors,
are shown on two maps (A and B) accompanying this report. The description of
materials exposed in the trenches is shown on six profiles (Trenches A, 1, 2,
3, 6, and 7) also accompanying this report.
Trenches Selected
The trenches dug and examined are shown on drawings 9111-Map A and
• 9111-Map B which accompany this report.
In our proposal of April 28th locations for 10 trenches were described of
which it was recommended that five be cut. The remainder of the locations were
alternates should any of the five recommended present undue problems of access
for either the small bulldozer (D-5) or the backhoe to be used. The location
of all trenches was made in accordance with comments in a memorandum (dated
April 24, 1992) from Jim Pendleton to Susan Morrison both of the Colorado Mined
Land Reclamation Division (MLRD). Further, the final location of trenches was
made in accordance with a later conversation you had with Jim Pendleton in
which he asked that either Trench 3 or 4 (neither of which had been included on
the previous recommended list of five) be included in the program. The
Peabody Coal Company (PCC) surveyors determined that access would be easier to
Trench A rather than B and this substitution was made. Trench A was a
