• In order to adequately resolve the concerns described above, PCC
needs to adequately address the following items:
i. Provide a clear description of the current status of all box
cut and other spoils generated during development of the Wadge
west pit, as well as a specific plan for regrading this
material and an indication of the quantity of spoil material,
if any, which is in excess of volume required to achieve
A.O.C. The estimated cost for completing all required
reclamation activities in this area should be added to the
reclamation cost estimate.
ii. The present extent of disturbance at the Wadge west pit area,
including the solid waste disposal area and all highwall areas
left exposed for angering purposes, should be quantified in
terms of: a) The cubic yardage of material needed to be moved
back into the pit; b) haul or push distances and grades that
• will be encountered; and c) quantities of topsoil to be
replaced. Estimated costs for completing all reclamation
activities in this area need to be added into the reclamation
cost estimate section of the permit renewal application.
RESPONSE:
The Wadge 4Jest pit was begun adjacent to a no coal area in the southeast
portion of tire Wadye coal field approximately between map coordinates
E17,000, 529,000 and E19,000, 530,000. After the initial box cut was
opened in 1982, the spoil was rough graded and mining progressed west to
its current location as shown on Exhibit 12-1.
The box cut for the Wadge east pit began in 1985, also along the same no
coal area as did the Wadge West pit, but not entirely adjacent to the
west pit box cut. The remainder of the spoil appeared to have been
spoiled into a local Swale through that area. Mining has since
progressed to the east to its present location.
•
Currentl;~, all box cut spoil from both the Wadge east and west pits has

29
