2.04.7 Hydrology Description •
C 2. In order to assess the effect of mining on Fish Creek, additional
monitoring of flow, TDS, and sulfate during low-flow conditions
at downstream locations cn Cow Camp Creek should be incorporated
into the monitoring program. A proposal to either: (1) monitor
coincident with SW-S2-6 three times per year at one station above
the confluance with Fish Creek; or (2) a single intensive survey
at multiple locations downstream on the tributary should be
submitted to the Division.
RESPONSE:
See Response to Comment 1.
2.04.7 Hydrology Description
The portion of Tab. 7 which describes potentiometric surfaces of
the various aquifers at and near the Seneca II Mine should be
revised to describe current conditions in the backfilled areas of
the mine site. If sufficient data to describe the potentiometric
surface of the backfilled Wadge pit near 004 pond is not
available, a plan to monitor this surface should be submitted to
the Division.
C RESPONSE: •
The response to this comment can be found in Section VII. 6.2.a of Tab
7 of the Seneca II Mine Permit Renewal Application. As part of this
response, the water level contour map of the Wadge and Wolf Creek Coal
and spoils aquifers has been completely revised as Exhibit 7-2A.
Current water level conditions in the backfilled areas of the mine
site are described and a spoils monitoring program is also committed
to and detailed.
2.04.7 Hydrology Description
Page 7-77, Section (b)(i) indicates that all sampling is done in
accordance with USGS and EPA procedures. Peabody Coal should
submit for inclusion into the permit a detailed description of
both ground and surface water sampling techniques (both
discharge/level, and quality), as well as preservation methods
for samples sent to the laboratory.
RESPONSE:
See Response to Comment 6.
r
•
Rzvised 8/21/86
