It was agreed by all <br />participants during the discussion that there was no <br />evidence of recent movement on any of the fractures. P <br />report prepared by MLR following the inspection supports <br />this statement.."It is the Division's opinion that the <br />observed fracturing does not constitute a hazard for the <br />stability of the mine workings, peiznit area or adjacent <br />areas". The existence of similar fractures within the <br />Hawk's Nest Bast Mine was also acknowledged. It is <br />significant that Hawk's Nest is mining down dip, away <br />from the valley; therefore it may be concluded that the <br />open fractures are not the result of a landslide-like <br />movement. <br />The inspection report specified six points to be included <br />in a report to be prepared by WECC, in relation to the <br />fractures. The report was to discuss the mechanism by <br />which these fractures are occurring. Each of the points <br />will be listed, followed by a brief discussion of the <br />maps and analysis of information contained in the maps <br />which are relevant to the topic. <br />1. Thorough documentation of the distribution, ori- <br />• entation, character and observed dimensions of <br />all fracturing encountered within the mine: <br />Enclosure No. 1 is a 1"=50' scale map of the <br />area in the mine in which the fractures were <br />encountered. The distribution of the cracks <br />has been found to be exclusively limited to <br />areas of sandstone roof. Shale roof has been <br />found to contain vertical joints which are not <br />open. The orientation and dimensions of each <br />occurrence is showr. on the map. The exposed <br />surfaces of all the cracks exhibit iron stain- <br />ing, thereby establishing an age that is older <br />than the mine development. The accompanying <br />rose histograms also show the frequency distri- <br />bution and orientation of the fractures within <br />sandstone roof, shale roof, and summation of <br />both occurrences. <br />2. The distribution of roof rock lithology and the <br />projected locations of the overlying sandstone <br />channel deposits; <br />Enclosure No. 1 shows the boundaries of the known <br />distribution of areas of sandstone and shale roof. <br />Enclosure No. 2 is a 1"=200' scale showing the <br />• limits of the sandstone roof without other ex- <br />traneous data. Enclosure No. 3 is a 1"=1000' <br />scale map which shows all anticipated areas of <br />sandstone immediate roof within the five year <br />permit area. <br />
