Gunnison No. 1 Mine
Sandstone Extension Fractures
This let
relative
February
It is my
ing does
our mine
ter is to confirm the agreement reached
to the roof cracks during our meeting on
8, 1983.
understanding that we agree that the fractur-
not constitute a hazard for the stability of
workings. The unusual non-conformity between
• the surface joint patterns and those which are developed
in the vicinity of the sandstone channel tends to sup-
port the theory that the surface joint patterns are the
result of a separate geologic event from the cause of
the fractures associated with the sandstone channel.
This implies the fractures in and near the sandstone
probably formed before or after the surface joints. The
amount of observed extension and the intensity of iron
staining encountered in the sandstone rules out recent
formation.
i am presently drafting a letter which will be submitted
together with drafted copies of the maps presented on
February 8th. I will forward the complete packet at the
earliest mutual convenience.
Please call should you have any questions.
Sincerly,
John L.
