® construction, both of which are partially counterbalanced
by a reasonably high level of redevelopment and remodeling
activity. But, if yearly fluctuations are smoothed and a
reasonably stable economic climate continues to prevail,
gravel demand is likely to range between 1 . 8 and 2. 5 million
tons per year even without significant growth, and half or
more of that total might be used each year to maintain
and upgrade present facilities .
The sand and gravel from the Deepe Farm site will be used
over a period of approximately 17 to 25 years and will
represent a significant percent of the county 's annual
consumption. The timing of the mining operation is dependent
• upon four principal factors :
1. The amount of gravel to be mined from the site;
2. The total size of the market available to all
processors in the area;
3. The portion of the total market served by the
processor conducting the mining operation;
4 . The desired impact of the operation.
If the site is to be mined, the maximum amount of gravel
should be extracted. This is most efficient in terms of
• production and planning and eliminates the need for future
disturbances. This proposal covers mining of the entire
site. The rate of mining at this site could be accelerated
B-2
