r
•
4PPE~JDIS
1'EGETATIOII TYPES
The vegetation on the study area was classified into three major
tvaes which cover most of the study area, The major vegetative
t~~pes are:
Pinyon-Juniper
The pin;ron-juniper type is found at lower elevations (mainly
below 7000') betknen the mine site and State Highway .4133, on
.~
~ south and west exposures. The dominant *_ree species is Utah
• juniper (J.iniocrus osteosnerma) with almost pure stands at lower
c'.eva*.ion drier sites. (Cover class - nenerally moderate, but
sparse on cone sites). Pinyon pine (Pinus edulis) becomes more
evident at higher elevations, but never occurs as more than a
scattered tree in this type. The understory is mostly big sage-
brush (Artemisiz tridentata) and bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata)
on the lower drier portions. (Cover class - scattered). At
ni^`~cr elevations and on more favorable sites, service berry
(Anelanchier s?a.), mo:mtain mahogany (Cercocarous montanus)
zn~ rzbbitbrush (CrysY_hamnus seo.) also are present. (Cover
class - scattered, but moderate on a few sites).
Ct:~er shrubs occurring (scattered) .n this type include
skunG: burn (thus trilohata), Gambei oak, (Guercus aambeli),
1
