Note: Bald and Golden eagles may use exisong <br /> cottonwood trees for parching and/or winter roosting. <br /> Endangerecticriticall species impacted: <br /> No threatened or endangered spades will be impacted. <br /> Critical habita"otathre communities impacted: <br /> None. <br /> Assessment of impact- <br /> The conversion ol agricultural 6"into ponds is considered a bei is t to wildlife by providing open <br /> water for migrating waterfoW. If done properly, construction of such ponds can also provide <br /> nesting habitat and aquatic vegetation and Invertebrates upon which waterldwi will forege. <br /> Additionally, such ponds can be a with fish. <br /> Mine Reclamation recommendations (include key spocies/habitats for which restoration Is <br /> designed). <br /> -Construct ponds such as to maximize shoreline by using an Irregular shape (not a simple square, <br /> rectangle,or circle)which includes jetty-type structures protruding into to pond. <br /> -In addition to a grading of 3h:1v on the pond walls, consider constructing shallower areas (5h:1v <br /> up to 10h*lv) which vAll encourage growth of aquatic vegetation and also invertebrate prey for <br /> waterfavA. <br /> -Consider leaving the occasional island In the middle of each pond. <br /> -Adhere to revegetation seed mixture and also consider planting shrubs (vAllows) and occasional <br /> ban. <br /> -Allow existing mature stands of Cottonwoods and isolated trees to remain. These trees <br /> undoubtedly are use by seasonally and sporadically by raptors including Bald and Gold eagles. <br /> -Consider adding to ponds underwater topography/structure (e.g. dead logettrees, cement rip-rep, <br /> used tires chained togeftw) which will encourage growth of aquatic vegetation and increase the <br /> presence of invertebrates. <br /> Prepared by-.
