CLASSIFICA?ION OF COAL RESOURCES LN LEASE APPLICATION AREA C-29125--Two minable
coal beds underlie the application area, as follows:
Bed 1 (Upper Menefee seam) ranges from about S.5 to over 6 feet thick in
:.~ the coal haulageway of the Xing Coal Mine adjoining the northern boundary
of the application area. An~a+~i~ration hole drilled in 1928 by the
Calumet Fuel Company in eh NWkS47-t sec 3Z._T 35' N , R 11 W. located -
-~ ~- --
approximately 650 feet eaa a lease application boundary in Pine
Culeh~ reported 7 feet of coal at this horizon.
Coal bed 1 is known within li-miZe of the application land in Calumet
drill-hole 2, and in mine workings of the King Coal lease along the entire,
northern boundary of the application area. These data points place the en-
tire application area within a radius of ~-mile from known coal measurements
of coal bed 1. Coal bed 1 falls within the coal classification standards
(U.S. Geological Survey Sull. 1450-B) for "measured" coal in the north half
of the application area, and the criteria for "indicated" coal reserves in
the southern half of the 120-acre lease application area.
Coal bed 2 measurements are known from the Burnwell No. 2 Mine, and drill-
hole NKC in the S„it$kNHk sec. 32, ?. 35 N., R. 11 ii (figs. 1 and 3).
The NKC drill hole is located approximately 300 feet north of the north
boundary line of the application area. These data points place the entire
application area within a ~.-mile-vide belt, and within 3-4 mile of a known
coal measurement on coal bed 2. Coal bed 2 meets coal claseifiea[ion
standards for "measured" coal under approximately 33 acres in the northern
par[. of [he application area, and standards for "indicated" coal in the
balance of the application area.
ESTIMATED RESERVE BASE CALCULATIONS IN LEASE APPLICATION AREA --For reserve
base estimates, coal bed 1 is considered to average 5.8 feet thick and underlie
the entire 120 acres of the application area at depths ranging from about 50
feet below the surface in Pine Culeh Co about J00 feet below the surface on Che
divide beteeen Pine Gulch and Hay Gulch. ,
The total amount of coal underlying the application area in coal bed 1 (upper
Menefee seam) is calculated at 1,252,800 Cons of "measured" and "indicated" coal
reserves, or 657,720 tons of "measured" coal, and 595,080 tons of "indicated"
coal.
120 ac x 5.$ ft x 1 800 tons ~ 1 252 800 tons
' ac-ft ' '
For reserve base estimates, coal bed 2 is considered to average 5 feet thick
and underlie the entire application area at depths ranging from about 130 feet
below the surface in Pine Culeh Co 380 feet below the surface on the divide
beteeen Pine Gulch and Hay Gulch.
120 ac x i ft x 1 800 tons ~ 1 080 000 tone
' ac-ft ' '
1'he total amount of coal underlying the application area in coal bed 2 is
calculated at 1,080,000 tone, including 297,000 tons of "measured" coal and
783,000 tons of "indicated" coal reserves.

3
November 1993
