JUSTUS
EDUCATION
B.S., 1995, Geology, Adams State College.
Fall 1995 -Spring 1996 Graduate Work at Colorado State University in Civil Engineering.
REGISTRATION
Registered Professional Geologist: Washington (2378)
EXPERIENCE
Leonard Rice Engineers, Inc.
2002-Present -Project Hydrogeologist
1998-2001 -Staff Hydrogeologist
1996-1997 -Assistant Hydrogeologist
Involved in all aspects of ground water studies and analysis including interpretation and
evaluation of hydrogeologic systems, geologic and geophysical logs; water quality data;
geologic and hydrologic maps, computer modeling, aquifer testing, water well design and
. construction, evaluation of mining impacts on ground water systems, ground water /
surface water interactions, and water rights. Responsible for GIS development, including
interpretation and evaluation of spatial model input and results and how it relates to the
hydrogeologic environment. GIS experience includes working on both ground water and
surface water projects and serving as a GIS consultant to several clients. Field
experience includes: mapping, water quality sampling, aquifer testing, logging and
supervision of well drilling.. Duties require collection and analysis of data, report
preparation and litigation support.
Significant projects include:
• Evaluation of the hydrogeology of Beebe Draw and Box Elder alluvial aquifers includes
preparation of an aquifer mass balance for eleven time periods, from 1930 to the present,
and estimation of the timing and amount of depletion to the South Platte River caused by
irrigation welt pumping. This is an ongoing project that involves the use of GIS tools
that we developed for this project. This study is for Central Colorado Conservancy
District in support of the District's augmentation plan.
• Developing a Visual MODFLOW computer model for litigation in Arizona. The project
involved using computer modeling to estimate the drawdown and stream depletions of a
well pumping near a stream's subflow zone.
• Alluvial aquifer characteristic study for the Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority to
guide future ground water development. The project included a GIS evaluation, aquifer
• extent mapping and permitting. The GIS evaluation involved importing the State
Engineer's Master Well List into ArcView, adding data from the State Engineer's well
LEONARD RICE ENGINEERS.
